Blindspace Blinds – Concealed Blinds for Windows & Doors
Concealed made-to-measure blinds for extensions, new builds and beautifully designed homes.
Blindspace conceals your blinds within discreet boxes built into the surrounding ceiling or wall, allowing suitable blinds to disappear from view when fully raised. It gives you shade and privacy when you need them, while preserving the clean lines of your windows and the views beyond.
At Winchester Blinds & Shutters, we supply and fit made-to-measure blinds within Blindspace concealment systems for homes in Winchester, Alresford and across Hampshire and beyond. We work with homeowners and their builders, coordinating the blind specification and box requirements early in the project to achieve a carefully considered finish.
Whether you are planning a contemporary glass extension, renovating a country cottage or building a new home, we can help you make shading part of the design from the beginning.

What Are Blindspace Blinds?
Blindspace is a concealment system that creates a recessed space for suitable blinds within the building. The boxes are integrated into the ceiling or wall around the glazing, with the blinds fitted inside.
When a compatible roller blind is fully raised, its fabric and mechanism are concealed within the box. When lowered, it provides the light control and privacy you have chosen for your room.
The finished result is particularly effective around large glass doors and windows, where visible blind fittings could interrupt the architectural detail.
The box and blind need to be specified together. We consider the window dimensions, fabric, operating system and available space to recommend a suitable combination for your project.
You can also explore the Blindspace concealment system on the manufacturer’s website.
Concealed Roller Blinds for Bifold Doors, Sliding Doors and Large Windows
Large areas of glazing connect your home to the garden and bring valuable natural light into the room. They can also create glare, strong sunlight and a need for privacy after dark.
Concealed roller blinds allow you to manage those changing conditions without leaving a visible blind roll above your doors when the blinds are raised.
They are particularly well suited to:
- Bifold and sliding doors in kitchen and living extensions.
- Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the garden.
- Contemporary glazed living spaces.
- New homes where a minimal finish is part of the design.
We plan the blind positions around the glazing, door openings and handles. For wider installations, we also advise on how the blinds should be divided to suit the available system dimensions and the way you use the room.
Blindspace Blinds for Extensions and New Builds
The best time to plan concealed blinds is before the surrounding walls and ceilings are finished.
Including Blindspace in the design stage allows space for the boxes to be coordinated with the glazing and building details. It also gives your electrician time to prepare the appropriate power supply if you choose mains-powered motorised blinds.
We help you think beyond the appearance of the finished room. Which windows receive the strongest sun? Where will you sit, watch television or work? Will you want to lower one blind independently while leaving the others open?
These details help us recommend blinds that look right and work well in everyday life.
Bringing Modern Shading into Traditional Homes
Concealed blinds can work beautifully in an extension to a traditional property. They allow the new space to retain a contemporary finish while the original house keeps its character.
When raised, the blinds leave the glazing visually clear. When lowered, the chosen fabric can complement exposed brick, timber, painted walls and window frames, helping bring the old and new parts of the home together.

I am absolutely thrilled with my experience with Winchester Blinds & Shutters from beginning to end! The service has been exceptional — professional, friendly and genuinely caring throughout. Dean has visited my home three times. The first time, he advised me on shutters for my living room and bedroom, as well as blinds for the kitchen and bathroom. Later, I asked him back again to fit a roller blind in a small storage area. He was incredibly knowledgeable, patient and thorough, taking great care with measurements, explaining every option clearly and recommending what would work best for both my home and my personal needs. His advice was spot on every single time. Andy has visited twice. The first time he fitted the blinds in the bathroom and kitchen, and today he installed my beautiful shutters. He was meticulous with every detail, even fixing a small issue with my kitchen blind, and afterwards cleaned everything perfectly with his magical Henry hoover! The two of them worked brilliantly together to make sure everything was absolutely perfect. It is so rare these days to find people who genuinely care about their workmanship and take such pride in what they do. I honestly could not be happier with the final result. Now my only problem is… where else can I possibly put blinds or shutters so I have an excuse to call them back again? 😄Posted on Google![]()

Choosing the Right Fabric for Your Concealed Blinds
The Blindspace box determines how the blind is concealed. The fabric determines how it manages light, privacy and the appearance of the room.
We bring fabric choices into the planning process so you can consider them alongside your glazing, flooring and interior finishes.
Screen Fabrics for Filtered Light
Suitable screen fabrics can soften strong sunlight and reduce glare while retaining a degree of outward visibility. The effect depends on the fabric’s openness, colour and the lighting conditions.
Screen fabrics should not be relied on for privacy after dark when the room is illuminated.
Light-Filtering Fabrics for a Softer Interior
Light-filtering fabrics diffuse daylight to create a gentler atmosphere. They can be a useful choice for living areas where you want to soften the light without making the room feel too dark.
Privacy varies between fabrics, so we help you choose an appropriate option for your windows.
Blackout Fabrics for Greater Light Exclusion
Blackout fabric blocks light through the fabric itself. However, the amount of light entering around the edges depends on the complete blind installation.
If darkening the room is a priority, tell us at the consultation stage so we can assess the most suitable system and explain the expected result.
Motorised Blindspace Blinds for Simple Everyday Control
Motorised roller blinds are a practical choice for large glazed spaces, especially where there are several blinds to operate or the windows are difficult to reach.
Depending on the selected system, you can operate blinds individually or together using a remote control. Compatible app and smart-home options may also be available.
We supply motorised and electric blinds with Somfy systems across suitable ranges and can advise on the controls and power supply for your concealed installation.
Planning the electrics early helps achieve a discreet finish and makes the blinds convenient to use from the day your room is ready
Want to understand your control options? Read our guide to Somfy electric blinds to learn more about motorisation for your home.
Working with Your Builder and Architect
A successful concealed blind installation depends on getting the details right before the finishing work is complete.
We work with you and coordinate with your builder or architect where needed, helping ensure that the blind requirements are understood at the appropriate stages of the project.
Our service includes discussing your shading needs, checking measurements and available space, advising on the Blindspace box specification and agreeing the blind and control options.
The box installation can then be coordinated with the building work, with any electrical requirements prepared before the blinds are fitted. Once the space is ready, we install the made-to-measure blinds and show you how to operate them.
If you already have drawings, share them with us early. It is much easier to plan the right space for concealed blinds before the room is plastered and decorated.
Our Blindspace Project in Chilcomb, Winchester
For a striking extension to a traditional country cottage in Chilcomb, the homeowner wanted a modern living space with uninterrupted views of the sprawling garden on both sides.
Working alongside the building team, we coordinated Blindspace boxes for made-to-measure motorised roller blinds across the large floor-to-ceiling glass doors.
The black blind fabric complemented the black door frames and natural brickwork, adding a considered finishing touch to an extraordinary space. When raised, the concealed blinds allowed the glazing and garden views to take centre stage.
We also fitted matching manual roller blinds to the smaller windows in the seating area, alongside a blue roller blind chosen to coordinate with the bold cloakroom wallpaper.
It was an honour to contribute to such a thoughtful project: a home that brings traditional character and contemporary design together for the family and their grandchildren to enjoy.

Can Blindspace Be Fitted in an Existing Home?
Blindspace may be suitable for an existing home where renovation work allows enough space to integrate the concealment boxes.
Suitability depends on the construction around the windows, the available recess and the extent of the planned work. Introducing concealed boxes into a finished room may require alterations to the surrounding ceiling or wall.
If you are replacing doors, extending your home or undertaking a substantial renovation, contact us before the finishes are agreed. We can assess whether concealed blinds are practical and recommend suitable alternatives where needed.
Concealed Roof Lantern and Skylight Blinds
Overhead glazing needs a different shading approach from vertical windows and doors.
Blindspace offers concealment solutions for suitable skylight blind systems, but the design needs to account for the glazing dimensions, blind support and surrounding construction.
If your extension includes overhead glazing, we can discuss the shading requirements alongside your door and window blinds. Explore our roof lantern blinds for more information about the options available.
How Much Do Blindspace Blinds Cost?
Blindspace blinds are priced for the individual project. The total depends on the glazing dimensions, number of blinds, concealment boxes, fabric, motorisation and installation requirements.
Building alterations and electrical work may also need to be allowed for within your wider project budget.
We provide a free, no-obligation quotation based on your requirements and explain what is included, so you can plan with a clear understanding of the proposed installation.

Blindspace Blinds: Frequently Asked Questions
No. Blindspace boxes create a concealed space within the building for suitable blinds. The blind, fabric and operating system are selected separately and specified to fit the concealment arrangement.
Ideally, contact us during the design stage of your extension, renovation or new build. Early discussions allow the boxes, glazing details and any electrical provision to be coordinated before the walls and ceilings are finished.
Yes, suitable roller blinds can be concealed above bifold and sliding doors. The box size, blind dimensions and position need to be planned around the glazing, door operation and available building space.
Not every concealed installation requires motorisation. Suitability depends on the blind system, access and operating arrangement. Motorised blinds are often convenient for large doors, tall windows and rooms with several blinds.
Boxes can be installed to prepare a building for blinds at a later date. However, the intended blind type, dimensions and power requirements should be considered before the boxes are specified. Planning these details helps avoid restricting your future choices.
Blackout fabric prevents light from passing through the fabric, but light may still enter around the edges. The level of darkness depends on the complete system and installation. We can discuss suitable options if room darkening is a priority.
